We got the idea for a LFL from one on Albany in Ferndale and another on Scotia in Huntington Woods just south of 11 mile. The base of our LFL is actually an old side table that was donated to the cause. Our LFL is 90% crowd-funded and 10%ish funded from us, the stewards. We have a FB page: facebook.com/ForestStLFL - The most touching story was a young man (6) who gave $2 from his piggy bank and a few books. His name is on our library with our other benefactors. People may also place a memorial stone for someone they love to raise continued funds. It’s been awesome to meet so many new people!

I built this LFL two years ago after reading about them in Detroit Hour. I’m a big reader and want to encourage others to read too. It’s been a lot of fun and I’ve met many new neighbors.

I care about LFLs in Detroit because libraries have been shutting down giving kids and adults less access to reading materials.

Why I care about Little Libraries in Detroit? Although I’m from Alaska and now live in Montana, my heart goes out to Detroit because of all the struggles it’s had. It’s funny, but as I’ve told my friends and family in Montana and Alaska about my involvement with this Detroit Little Library movement, I’m discovering that many people from all over the country, are rooting for Detroit.
